At this point in time the site is under development, but the display side of things can use the phpBB 3 templating engine as it provides an easy to use but powerful system that makes it possible to realise the kind of system I require — extensible without the requirement of a database and that can run on modest hardware.
I did consider and evaulate a few freely available solutions with DokuWiki being my favourite, but as I have pretensions about being a “programmer” and basically only need something that literally displays a precomposed HTML page whilst doing the “donkey work” of maintaining indices, links, etc.), the decision wasn’t one I pondered over for too long.
I make no apologies for the spartan layout of the site.
My sincerest thanks go to Rob Lochier of Alro Racing Systems for the long-standing help and support he has given to someone who can be a real PITA.
The phpBB Group and Paul S. Owen (psoTFX), not just for providing part of the backend software, but also the opportunity to be part of the effort in making phpBB what it is.
